The U.S. Constitution addresses birthright citizenship in the Fourteenth Amendment, which states:
"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside."

This clause establishes that anyone born in the U.S. (with limited exceptions, such as children of foreign diplomats) is automatically a U.S. citizen.
